OLDHAM’S fifth Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans Pride takes centre stage outside the Spindles shopping centre on Saturday next week.

The event will kick-off with a powerful reminder of Oldham’s campaign against homophobia.

Marie Causer will be speaking in Town Square about her son Michael who was murdered in a homophobic attack at his Liverpool home last year.

Other speakers include the leader of Oldham Council, Councillor Howard Sykes and Chief Supt Caroline Ball of Oldham Police.

Councillor Sykes said: “It is clear that homophobia is something that it is vital we continue to raise awareness of.

“No person should live in fear or be discriminated against in any way purely because of their sexuality.”

At noon in Market Square, Oldham Mayor, Councillor Jim McArdle, will officially set a colourful parade off to Gallery Oldham.

There will be a wide range of entertainment, activities and advice and information stalls hosted by flamboyant comedian Jonathan Mayor and costume performer and poet Vampire Rosie Lugosi, between 12.30-4pm at Gallery Oldham.

And there’ll also be live music including an Abba tribute.

People will be able to join in the fun and dance with the Prairie Dogs and the Gay Gordons and have a go at circus activities including juggling, stilt walking and diablo.
