Homes left without electricity
Date published: 16 July 2009
HOMES across Denshaw were without power yesterday morning after a tree collapsed onto an overhead cable.
Around 120 homes were plunged into darkness at 8.30am, but 60 had power restored fairly swiftly.
Another 30 had their supply fixed by 10am, but the rest had to wait until 4.30pm before United Utilities staff were able to fix the problem.
A spokesman for United Utilities said: “Branches and trees falling on lines is very common in blustery weather so we have to undertake pruning operations all year round to counteract this.
“It took us a while to restore electricity to the final set of homes because we had to travel the length of the line on difficult moorland terrain to locate the area and there was no alternative electricity supply for them.”
