Postal workers

WE have been asked to point out that members of the Communications Workers Union were not asked to take part in an unofficial work to rule after postal workers in other parts of the country went on strike for 24 hours today in a worsening row over jobs, pay and services.
Local union members have applied for a ballot for industrial action but this can take 28 days to be put into place.
CWU branch secretary Ted Stead said: “We are asking people to come in on time, take their meal breaks and weigh their bags before they go out. Our staff work through their lunch, come in early and stay late to get the job done and it’s not fair. We would never condone unofficial action let alone initiate it. We have got an official ballot going through so it would be pointless for us to take unlawful action.”
