Artists get chance to shine

Saddleworth Museum and Art Gallery curator Peter Fox has thrown down a challenge to shy local artists.

Peter wants to display a complete range of their talents at the Saddleworth Museum Open Art Exhibition next month.

In recent years, the museum, on High Street, Uppermill, has exhibited nearly 100 works from more than 70 artists.

Said Mr Fox: “We want it all — traditional still life, landscapes, bright modern abstracts and photography from both amateur and professional artists.

“In the past we have been thrilled with the response from local artists of all abilities and all ages.

“We hope they will grab the opportunity to have a go and get a picture on display.”

Sponsored by Taylor and Clifton Printers Ltd, Uppermill, prizes will be awarded for various categories including a special young section.

Entry forms can be obtained from the museum for a small fee, which contributes to the gallery’s operations, and offers free public entry.

Work can be submitted at the gallery on Sunday, August 9, between 1-3.30pm or August 10, between 10am-3.30pm

The exhibition opens to the public on Saturday, August 15, and runs until September 13.
