Eddie’s all set for an epic journey

The Chronicle backs the £100,000 Oldham Christie Appeal
INTREPID cyclist Eddie Garlick is gearing up for a solo trip from Land’s End to John O’Groats to push the Christie’s at Oldham campaign closer to its target.
The 29-year-old will tackle the 850-mile epic journey by pedal power, setting out on the two-week feat on August 2.
The gruelling challenge will be a test to the stamina of Eddie, who has been getting cycle fit by pedalling from his home in Croft Brow, Garden Suburbs to work at Bianca Textiles in Ardwick each day.
He is also concentrating on off-road biking to improve his fitness levels ahead of his charity challenge. Describing himself as an adventure lover, he explained: “I have been cycling properly for at least 10 years.
“I have done around 700 miles in France, and this time last year I cycled to Scotland and back. I’ll be carrying all my own equipment, from bike spares to tent — basically I’ll be doing this unsupported and by myself. I’m not going to pretend it’s going to be easy but I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
Eddie decided to give a boost to the £100,000 appeal because cancer touches many people during the course of their lives.
He said: “There’s a good chance either I, or someone I know, will get it.”
He has already been promised £1,150 in sponsorship, mainly from work colleagues and customers, and people can contribute by logging on to www.justgiving.com/solocycle
