Cabinet quiz over Harrogate 11...
Date published: 21 July 2009
Oldham Council sent twice as many people to the Local Government Association conference as any other authority, a critic will allege tomorrow.
Saddleworth Parish Councillor Ken Hulme will question cabinet members about the conference held in Harrogate from June 30 to July 2.
He will use public question time to tell members: “According to the published list of attendees, Oldham Council had 11 representatives at this event.
“Of the other local authorities in Greater Manchester, the number of representatives were Bolton 6, Bury 6, Manchester 3, Rochdale none, Salford 6, Stockport 6, Tameside 5, Trafford none, and Wigan 3.
“How much in delegates’ fees, accommodation, transport, and refreshments did this event cost Oldham Council?
“As the authority with the highest council tax in Greater Manchester, how does Oldham Council justify sending so many representatives to this event, when other authorities clearly felt such expenditure was not justified?”
The cabinet meets at Oldham Civic Centre tomorrow at 6pm.
