OLDHAM’S housing mix will be the subject of debate when the council’s cabinet meets tonight.

Members will discuss the town’s affordable housing strategy to make sure the range of properties suits the needs of Oldhamers.

Councillor John McCann, cabinet member for community services and housing said: “The current economic climate means that there is a significant increase in demand for affordable housing to rent.

“This strategy which has been developed following wide-ranging consultation with local housing associations, officers and elected members.

“It means that the council has a clear understanding of what is required.

“We can go forward with our partners to ensure that the maximum amount of funding is released from the Homes and Communities Agency to enable us to target investment where it is required.

“If agreed, this strategy will enable the council to react and provide solutions to the various housing issues in the borough and help people to get access to the housing that is right for them.”
