SHAW pupils spent a weekend getting wet and muddy — and loved every minute of it!
Year 6 youngsters rounded off their time at St Joseph’s RC Primary School with a fun-filled visit to the Waterpark Outdoor Adventurous Activity Centre in the Lake District.
They enjoyed canoeing, kayaking, ghyll scrambling, climbing, asbeiling, raft building and orienteering on the edge of Coniston Water.
The annual trip is the highlight of the year.
Deputy head teacher Stephen Hill, who accompanied the pupils, said: “The children get as wet as they can and as muddy as they can and have a great time together. Everyone looks forward to it.
“The whole weekend was a fantastic experience for the pupils.
“All the activities were new to them and, as well as simply having fun, it’s really increased their confidence.
“They’ve learned to work as a team and helped to support each other as they’ve made their way up and down ghylls and completed an 80ft climb and abseil.”
Pupils also worked together to design and build rafts to sail on the lake.
Mr Hill added: “This was great fun with differing levels of success. Some of the rafts simply collapsed which just added to the fun and excitement! At the end of the weekend the children were very proud and amazed at what they had actually achieved.
“The trip has produced some brilliant memories that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. They enjoyed it so much, they’ve asked if they can go again next year and help when they’re in Year 7.”
All the pupils agreed. Megan Whitworth said: “It was the best weekend of my life.”
Classmate Robert Harding added: “What an amazing weekend! Seeing Mr Hill fall out of his kayak was the funniest thing ever!”
