VICTIM: Junaid Khan
POLICE are taking to the streets to find the killer of Junaid Khan who was gunned down in Chadderton two weeks ago.
The 21-year-old was shot several times in the car park of Block Lane doctors surgery on Thursday, July 9.
As Junaid, of Cotton Mill Crescent, lay helpless on the floor his killer stood over him and shot him again.
Police are appealing to members of Junaid’s community for help and are visiting mosques in the area to hand out leaflets and speak to residents.
A mobile police station has also been set up at the site of the murder allowing people to drop in and speak to officers in confidence. Police are keen to hear from anyone with information specifically about a silver Mitsubishi Shogun seen in the area around the time of the shooting.
The car was seen driving along Block Lane after the shots were heard and was found on fire in a car park near to Ancora, formerly the Red Barn, in Broadway a short time later.
Det Chief Insp Steve Eckersley from the team investigating the murder said: “Junaid was gunned down in a horrific attack and it is vital that we work with the community to find the people responsible.
“The high police visibility is aimed at providing reassurance for the local community, but also to give anyone who may have information to come forward and speak to us in confidence.
“We still believe the answers to this murder lie in the community.
“We are still, for example, interested in speaking to anyone who saw the silver 4x4 on Wednesday night.
“I know a number of people went down to the car park following the shooting and I would urge them to speak to police if they haven’t done already.
“Junaid’s friends could also help us piece together a possible motive for the attack and I would also be keen to speak to them.”
Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0161-856 2039 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555 111.
