Flying the green flag for Oldham
Date published: 27 July 2009
SEVEN green spaces in Oldham have been handed the national award for the best green area.
Each year, The Green Flag Award recognises the nicest green open spaces and parks across the whole country.
Alexandra Park, Brownhill Centre Nature Garden, Chadderton Hall Park, Coalshaw Green Park, Foxdenton Park, High Crompton Park and Stoneleigh Park were part of 1,013 awards handed out nationwide.
Housing Minister Ian Austin said: “It’s obvious from the number of winners that green spaces are continuing to improve at an impressive rate.”
Only green spaces that are free to enter and open to the public are eligible to win the award. The North-West boasted the highest number of winners this year with 225.
