Friends are ready to get the party started

DERKER folk have got their fingers crossed for sunshine as they look forward to their Party in the Park.

The Friends of Stoneleigh Park has organised the event, which will take place from 1 to 5pm on Saturday and which will be opened by the Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Jim McArdle.

Councillor Roger Hindle, a member of the Friends group, said: “Everyone involved in the group has put a lot of effort in to planning this event and I hope all their hard work pays off.

“Preparations started soon after last year’s successful event, which was organised in conjunction with the East Oldham Area Committee co-optees. We also had a great event in the park at Easter, so I have every confidence this Party in the Park should be equally successful.”

There will be plenty going on to suit all ages such as face painting, arts and crafts, bouncy caste, an assault course, climbing wall and go-karts.

As well as the usual raffle, tombola and refreshments there will be information displays from Housing Market Renewal, Community Links, Police and Community Safety, Street Scene, St James’s Children Centre, First Choice Homes and the Library Service.

The Rochdale Rescue Hedgehog Society will also bring some of their spiky friends along.
Angela Cosgrove, secretary of the Friends of Stoneleigh Park, said: “There is already a lot going on, but we haven’t stopped there. We are still following up more contacts already made with other groups who may still be able to attend.”
