Tunnel centre’s feast of art
Date published: 31 July 2009
Stanedge Tunnel and Visitor Centre is gearing up for a big turn out at the launch of Artsfest tomorrow.
The free art exhibition, on until August 9, promises a range of different works from more than 30 local artists.
The works will reflect the diversity of talent in the region and will include many genres such as Chinese ink and watercolours, wood engravings, acrylics, pastels, digital photography and metal relief sculptures.
James Dean, visitor services manager at the centre in Marsden said: “Last year, more than 2,000 people came to see all the fantastic local artwork. This year we’ve got even more art for the public to see, so if someone’s looking for that special buy, Stanedge will be the place to be!
“Artsfest is an event we really enjoy as it’s for the local community and we are able to provide a fantastic exhibition space at the visitor centre.”
The exhibition will run from 10:30am-4pm each day. Once at the centre, visitors can make a day of it and enjoy the Stanedge Tunnel experience, taking a boat trip into the tunnel, having a picnic or enjoy a walk around Tunnel End reservoir.
