A fearless Oldham fund-raiser is gearing up for a freefall skydive for a special cause.

Liam Standring (32), of Huddersfield Road, will experience the exhilarating thrill of leaping from an aircraft from approximately 14,000ft at Grange-over-Sands.

Joining him on Tuesday’s dive will be other colleagues from Co-operative headquarters in Manchester Elsa Parker, Katie West and Sarah Williams.

The team, who don’t need any training for the sky dive, hopes to raise more than £1,000 for RNID’s “Hear to Help” service which trains volunteers to provide support for hearing aid users in their local communities.

Mr Standring, who is engaged to marry next May, said: “We are supporting RNID as our charity of the year to help change the world for the nine million people in the UK who are deaf or hard of hearing.

“The thought of the skydive is quite daunting but we are looking forward to taking the plunge to raise as much money as possible for such a worthwhile cause.”

With the support of its members and customers, The Co-operative aims to raise more than £2 million in 2009 for RNID, with the goal of transforming Hear to Help into a national service reaching over 18,000 people each year.
