THE funeral of murder victim Junaid Khan was due to take place this afternoon.

The 21-year-old, of Cotton Mill Crescent, Werneth, was shot 17 times in the car park of a doctors’ surgery in Block Lane, Chadderton.

A former South Chadderton school pupil, Junaid was gunned down in cold blood in the early hours of July 9.

A silver Mitsubishi 4x4 was seen in the area at the time of the shooting. The same vehicle was later found burned out at the former Red Barn car park — now home to the Ancora Italian restaurant, on Broadway.

Ever since the incident, the Greater Manchester Police specialist investigations team has been conducting house-to-house inquiries and delivered leaflets in a bid to uncover vital information.

Male mourners attending today’s service were invited to Werneth Park at 2.30pm.

Plans were in place for the funeral to be switched to Suffolk Street Mosque in case of rain.

A separate gathering for women was due to take place at Freehold Club, Gloucester Street North, Werneth, between 1 and 2pm. Local mourners were advised to leave their cars at home as large crowds were expected.
