COUNCILLORS have welcomed plans for Shaw and Crompton’s new super-health centre.
They approved an application for building a state-of-the-art, three-storey development in Westway, Shaw, between the community centre and swimming pool.
The proposal includes demolishing the existing health centre in High Street and building a car park and public open space in its place.
Health bosses say residents will get the benefit of not only a first-class building, but of top-class health services.
The facility will rehouse two existing GP practices and offer community health services such as district nurses, health visitors, pharmacy and dental services and more specialist services normally found in a hospital.
The plans are now set to go before Oldham Council next month and, if approved, work is scheduled to start early next year and be completed by spring, 2011.
