Group marks Hiroshima Day

OLDHAMERS from across the borough came together for a special walk to mark Hiroshima Day yesterday.
The annual walk, the 26th organised by the Saddleworth Peace Movement, saw walkers follow a circular route from the King George VI playing fields in Uppermill.
At the end of the walk, candles were lit to commemorate not only the dropping of the first atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, but also the millions who have died across the globe as a result of poverty, conflict, the arms trade and nuclear weapons.
Walkers also focussed on the injustices of unfair trade and racism, globally and locally.
