Darren’s St John honour

THERE’S never a dull moment for Jack-of-all-trades Darren Clark.
And now the Lees funeral director has taken on the role of St John Ambulance president in Greater Manchester.
Darren, who appropriately lives in St John Street, started volunteering with the organisation when he was only eight-years-old.
As time passed, he worked his way through the ranks and even met his wife Diana — a fellow volunteer — along the way.
The father-of-one, who works as a trauma and bereavement counsellor, owns and manages three local funeral directors — Wild & Brierley, in Werneth; T Collins & Son, Lees; and Harold P Heywood, in Failsworth.
Darren’s new role will run for six years. His responsibilities will be to support St John Ambulance volunteers and generate fund-raising ideas.
He said: “It’s a real honour to represent St John Ambulance in Greater Manchester.
“I see my role as supporting the volunteers and St John Ambulance management while undertaking a great deal of fund-raising.
“Times are obviously a little tougher so I’m putting together some different fund-raising ideas — things that haven’t been tried before.
“If any businesses would like to get involved, we would be delighted to hear from them.”
