Sharon Schofield is one of Chadderton’s busiest women.
Not only does she have six children under the age of 11, but she also has two grown-up daughters, Leanne (20) and Laura (18), volunteers at Stanley Road Children’s Centre, offers baby massage both at the centre and in people’s homes, and has recently left a job at Asda, Chadderton.
A trained nursery nurse, Sharon has just completed a number of courses through the Children’s Centre, and is due to start a new job in the maternity unit at Bury’s Fairfield Hospital as an infant feeding co-ordinator.
But one of her greatest joys is taking her six young children out en masse to keep them occupied during the summer holidays.
Her busy life leaves her with not a moment to spare but, she said: “I love it.
And her verdict on being the mother of eight? “It’s absolutely brilliant. The key is being organised, then it’s easy.
“I love children and I love being busy,” said Sharon, who lives with her family in Attock Close.
“It shocks a lot of people who know I have so many children to find out that I work and volunteer, and offer baby massage free of charge to all mums in the area.
Last Wednesday, Sharon took her six youngest children, aged 10, eight, five, four, two and six months to the Children’s Centre for a “Wonderful World of Play.”
The 40-year-old said: “It was absolutely brilliant. It was put on during the holidays for children of all ages, and they loved it.
“The older ones played Wii and on computers, there was lots of physical play and messy activities with sand, glue and sticky stuff, and tiny babies could go in a “pod” which is full of bright toys — it’s out of this world.”
Sharon also took the six youngsters for a day out to Heaton Park, and regularly takes them on organised walks with the Children’s Centre, where they learn about nature.
