WILLING walkers laced up their hiking boots for the 8th Annual Oldham Way Challenge.
People of all ages took part in the 40-mile fundraiser which was spread over two days, starting and finishing at Daisy Nook Country Park.
Oldham’s first Youth Mayor, Mohammed Adil, and other members of the youth council, walked to raise money for the Chris Dale campaign, in memory of the teenager who died after being hit by a car on Lees Road. Other groups from Oldham’s Integrated Youth Services and the Hathershaw and Fitton Hill New Deal for Communities also took part.
Organised by Oldham Council outdoor and environmental education service, it is a non-competitive event.
David Faulconbridge, event organiser, said: “It was fantastic to see so many people participating — despite the poor weather. We had people from all communities, aged from eight to 65 — it’s a great way of enjoying our wonderful countryside.
“Over 50 of the participants stayed at the Castleshaw Centre overnight, and others returned to complete the second half of the challenge on Sunday.
“The funds raised will be used to support a road safety campaign aimed at young drivers”.
