Hooray for Hollinwood — but agency not happy

PRANKSTERS who erected their very own Hollinwood sign — aping the famous sign above Hollywood — on the M60 motorway embankment have been slammed by the Highways Agency.

The 8ft high white letters spelling out Hollinwood appeared on Sunday night close to the southbound slip road at Junction 22.

Agency officers took down the letters yesterday — and have warned against similar stunts.

They have not found the culprits who put the letters up but said prosecution could be an option.

A spokesman said: “It is illegal to trespass on the motorway and that includes the embankment.

“It is incredibly dangerous and if they would have slipped and fallen onto the carriageway, the consequences don’t bear thinking about.

“The letters are also a distraction to motorists.

“It might have seemed like a jolly jape but it has potentially serious consequences.

“We are asking people to stay well away from the motorway.”
