Taking the plunge

THE SKY was the limit for fundraisers who took part in a 14,000ft skydive for charity.

The fearless five, who all work at Tesco Extra in Huddersfield Road, enjoyed scenic views over Morecambe Bay after they signed up for the charity event.

Manager Wes Davies, who has been skydiving before, originally suggested the idea and was joined by manager Lee Coleman, Tesco Community Champion Caroline Dean and staff members Tahrah Ali and Danielle Ormerod.

They took part in the tandem skydive to raise money for Tesco’s charity of the year, the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, and Springhill Hospice, Rochdale.

Staff, customers and local businesses helped raise £1,500 which will go to youngster Thomas Gardner, from Garden Suburb.

The 11-year-old, who has the Duchenne type of muscular dystrophy (DMD), needs £5,000 to pay for a new wheelchair.

Caroline said: “It was an absolutely brilliant day and I would do it again. It was a privilege to do something like this for such a good cause. We had lots of support from family members.”
