Saddle up for a Trec on horseback
Date published: 13 August 2009
HORSERIDERS are being offered a change from the showring or a hack round the block by taking part in a fun competition in Saddleworth.
Trec is a fast-growing sport which tests horse and rider in a range of tasks.
It involves orienteering and map reading, as well as an obstacle course carried out under a strict time limit, and controlling the pace of the horse.
Organised by Friezland User Group, the Trec event, now in its ninth year, will be held at Heights, Delph, on Sunday, September 20.
Riders and their mounts will meet obstacles designed to emulate those found in the countryside, such as closed gates, water crossings and bridges, and logs blocking the way,
Competitors under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an over-16-year-old for the orienteering phase — either on horseback, mountain bike or foot.
