10-day deep clean

Date published: 14 August 2009

A 10-day blitz to rid Shaw town centre streets of chewing gum begins on Sunday.

The £24,600 scheme will see a jet-powered attack on the paved areas, before they are sanded and treated with a sealant.

Target areas include the length of Market Street, from High Street, into Milnrow Road to Travis Street, and include all paved side roads, the newly laid areas of Newtown Street, outside the children’s centre and around the war memorial.

The scheme is part of a £125,000 summer programme of improvements to the Crompton Way gateway to Shaw, and will be carried out overnight, from 6pm until 6am, apart from Friday and Saturday nights, to minimise disruption.

Work is set to end on August 28.

It will be funded from a section 106 planning agreement which was part of Asda’s planning permission to build its supermarket in the town.
