The team from Vinci Construction Ltd, who are behind the £17million Christie Radiotherapy Centre being built in Oldham, raised £7,000 for the charity by completing the 60-mile Manchester to Blackpool bike ride last month
CONSTRUCTION workers building Oldham’s new £17 million radiotherapy centre downed tools for the day to take part in a 60-mile charity bike ride.
And as they demolished the miles, they built up the pounds, netting £7,000 for the Christie’s at Oldham appeal.
Around 20 charity cyclists from Vinci Construction Ltd and its sub-contractors tackled the Manchester to Blackpool bike ride for the cause.
The team included surveyors, architects, brickies, joiners and managers.
Project manager and keen cyclist Dave Davies, said: “The team made an excellent contribution, especially when you think that some of these people had not ridden bikes since they were younger.
“They were committed to the training and to the Christie’s charity cause which is fantastic. We initially pledged to raise £5,000 so reaching £7,000 is brilliant.”
Commending their efforts, Gerald Deslandes, head of corporate fund-raising at the Christie charity, said: “I am thrilled that members of the team actually building the centre took part in this bike ride for the charity. They really went the extra mile for the Christie.”
