OLDHAM Evening Chronicle’s Top Dog 2009 winner and runner-up joined forces to collect their prizes.
Andrea McLean’s two-year-old cocker spaniel, Lulu, beat off stiff competition to be crowned this year’s Top Dog.
The photographic pet promotion was run in conjunction with The Portrait Group and was sponsored by Manchester Street Veterinary Surgery.
More than 100 proud owners made their way to the vet’s surgery to have their prized pet’s photograph taken in a specially set-up studio.
All 102 images were reproduced in a Top Dog! Lifestyle special. And it was then up to Chronicle readers to vote for their favourite pooch.
Overall winner Andrea (37), from Glodwick, and her pet received a cash prize of £400, along with a canvas-style print of Lulu and a framed front page.
Andrea, a food technologist in Manchester said: “I am really pleased to be the overall winner. My parents run the Lower Rushcroft Newsagents on Duchess Street, Shaw, and while I’m at work they look after Lulu for me.
“All the customers love her and she has her own fan club. I just want to thank everybody who voted for Lulu.”
Runner-up was mongrel Tilly Flop, whose thrilled owner Keith Clarke, of Huxley Street, Oldham, received £100 and a framed front page.
Fay Jones, who wasn’t available for the presentation, also received £100 and a framed front page after her dog, Phoenix, was another runner-up.
