‘Happy’ man’s tragic death
Date published: 20 August 2009
A HAPPY-go-lucky workaholic killed himself after suffering from a sudden bout of depression.
A passer-by found Raymond Tucker’s body in a car in Mill Lane, Failsworth, on November 30, last year.
He had connected a hosepipe from the exhaust into the vehicle and his cause of death was recorded as carbon monoxide poisoning.
The 47-year-old, of Morecombe Close, Newton Heath, loved his job as a machine operator at a local food company.
Mr Tucker bought a property several weeks before his death and planned to make a profit from it so he could retire when he reached 50.
When he began to experience problems with the property he became anxious and told friends and family he felt down.
His sister, Elaine Muller, told the inquest that her brother switched from a bubbly man who never spoke about his problems to a withdrawn man who worried about everything in the weeks before his death.
Mrs Muller, who found a suicide note written by her brother at his house, said she believed Mr Tucker had intended the consequences of his actions.
Coroner Simon Nelson concluded that Mr Tucker had taken his own life while the balance of his mind was disturbed.
