A PROMINENT local councillor has heaped praise on Oldham’s young people after another year of record breaking A-level results.
In a year which saw the overall pass rate in Oldham increase by 0.3 per cent, with 46.6 per cent of students gaining A and B grades, Councillor Kay Knox said she was proud of what the borough’s students have achieved.
The Cabinet member for children, young people and families said: “I want to congratulate the hundreds of Oldham students, and their teachers, for the enormous amount of hard work that has gone into delivering what is now Oldham’s ninth consecutive year of improved A-level results.”
At North Chadderton, the number of students getting A and B grades was up more than 10 per cent on last year to 49.2 per cent.
Blue Coat School’s overall pass rate rose again to a near-perfect 99.3 per cent (excluding general studies) with 44.9 per cent getting top grades. There was also similar success at Crompton House with a 98 per cent pass rate of which 52 per cent obtained A and B grades.
Councillor Knox also moved to reassure students who didn’t get the grades they expected.
She said: “In this case, students need to speak to their school, college or a Connexions personal adviser to see what their new opportunities are.”
The Connexions advice centre in Union Street is open every weekday from 9am to 5pm (9am-7pm Tuesdays and Wednesdays), and between 10am and 2pm on Saturdays. Alternatively, students can call Connexions on 0161-621 9300.
