Can cook, will cook all summer

ALL MIXED UP . . . Fran Judge with her grandchildren, and volunteers Frank Tarkowski and Natalie Bowie
SHOLVER residents who have been cooking up a storm rustled up a feast to show off their new skills.
The budding chefs have worked hard all summer — in weekly classes and they crowned their achievements with a cook-and-taste session and barbecue before taking home a book of healthy recipes inspired by their own ideas, all part of the Groundwork Oldham and Rochdale Can Cook, Will Cook challenge.
Fran Judge, a Sholver resident who has been attending the classes, said: “I will be so sorry when the challenge comes to an end.
“My grandchildren and I have really enjoyed ourselves.
“I think they now know far more about the goodness of fruit and vegetables than I did at their age.”
The aim of the project is to teach Sholver residents new cooking skills and boost their knowledge of the health benefits of fresh fruit and vegetables.
And some of the volunteers also got involved in another Groundwork project, the community allotment at Hodge Clough Primary School.
Natalie Bowie, one of the Groundwork volunteers organising the project, said: “Can Cook Will Cook is a great way for the community to come together, to learn how to cook simple, healthy recipes that they can do at home and to get all the family involved too.”
