Lout crackdown pays dividends

A CRACKDOWN on anti-social behaviour has halved the number of incidents in West Oldham.

Between July 17 and August 11 this year, there were 35 reported incidents — a 51 per cent drop compared with the same period last year. Criminal damage has also reduced, by 28 per cent.

Sgt Trevor Harrison, of the Oldham West Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We launched a crackdown on anti-social behaviour in the area following concerns from the community that this was the main issue that was affecting their quality of life.

“High visibility patrols have been put in place and officers have been speaking to young people about the consequences of their behaviour.

“We have also been encouraging them to get involved in one of the many activities on offer as part of the Safe4summer initiative.

“We will continue to work with our partners including, New Deals for Communities and Oldham Council, to continue to bring down crime across the neighbourhood.

“I would also like to remind people that although we are doing the best we can, we rely on members of the public.

“Please continue to report any incidents of crime or anti-social behaviour by ringing 0161-872 5050 or calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555 111.”
