ANOTHER Oldham school has been acclaimed nationally after celebrating record A-Level results.
The Evening Chronicle revealed that Shaw school Crompton House was 39th in the Independent newspaper’s comprehensive school A-Level league table with an average of 348 points per pupil — but the national newspaper has missed some schools off its list.
Oldham’s Blue Coat School wasn’t included but its 139 entrants scored an average of 373 points, which would have put it 18th in the table.
In the Guardian newspaper’s rankings, Blue Coat is listed at 24th place with Crompton House 54th. Top of the Guardian table is Belle Vue Girl’s School, Bradford, where 77 pupils averaged 576 points.
The Guardian table is constantly refreshed, however, as more schools post their results, meaning positions can change.
The points score is calculated by awarding 120 points for an A grade, 100 for a B, 80 for a C, 60 for a D and 40 for an E, with AS Levels scoring half the A-Level points.
Across Oldham, the overall pass rate increased by 0.3 per cent with 46.6 per cent of students gaining A and B grades.
Blue Coat’s overall pass rate rose to a near-perfect 99.3 per cent (excluding general studies) with 44.9 per cent getting top grades.
Deputy head teacher Brian Devenport said: “We are absolutely thrilled with our results. We are also delighted for the success of all the young people in Oldham.”
