Summer activities are huge success

Youngsters used balloons to make weird and wacky toys as part of a summer programme of activities at Hathershaw College of Technology and Sport.
They were among 80 youngsters, aged 11-14, who have enjoyed four weeks’ of fun, courtesy of the school.
Lorna Philip, assistant head teacher, said it had been a huge success, run with funding from the Extended Schools scheme and Oldham Partnership.
The children who took part are pupils of the school and their friends, and the aim was to give them a taster in a range of activities which they can later follow in their own time.
“It is the first time we have done it, it has been really successful, and it will definitely be repeated,” she said.
Each day started with a healthy breakfast, followed by three different activities for children to join in.
