A-star performers

OUTSTANDING results again — this was the proud announcement by Crompton House School.
Almost 96.9 per cent of its pupils scooped at least five A*-C grades and 81.4 per cent achieved five A*-C grades, including English and Maths.
Two students chalked up all A* grades — Fiona Bushell achieved 11 A* and Anna Newton gained 10 A*.
A further 18 gained all A* and A grades. They included: Chloe Livesey (11 A* and one A), Rebecca Mathers (nine A* and two A), Elizabeth Kelly (nine A* and one A), Emily Dearden (eight A* and two A), Katherine-Helen Hurndall (eight A* and two A), Peter May (eight A* and two A), Emily Dickinson (seven A* and three A), Thomas Lowe (seven A* and three A), Stefany Maden (seven A* and three A), David Stutt (seven A* and three A), Kate Olivier (six A* and five A), Thomas Dalton (six A* and four A), Christopher Mundy (five A* and five A), Margaret Withnell (five A* and five A), Madeline Edge (four A* and seven A), Sarah Broadbent (four A* and six A), Dean Bromley (two A* and nine A) and Jack Wilson (two A* and eight A).
Head teacher Mrs Elsie Tough said: “These are our best results ever. In 2005 we did well achieving 92 per cent, this year we’ve surpassed even that with 96.9 per cent — fantastic!
“It is also very pleasing to note that 68.7 per cent of the grades are A*, A or B.”
Counthill ‘outstanding’
Next stop Oldham Sixth Form College for these bright teenagers who won a raft of impressive GCSE results at Counthill School.
Mitchell Oakley gained seven A*s and two As and will study maths, business studies, economics and philosophy in the hope of doing a finance degree in two years’ time.
Zubaida Begum got two A*s and four As and will go on to do A levels in biology, chemistry, maths and further maths to bring her one step close to a degree in medicine or dentistry.
Daniel Brown gained an A* and six As and will study biology, psychology, PE and history.
Sam Thornley got an A* and five As. He will study A levels in history, archaeology, English literature and geography.
This has been a year of transformation for Counthill School with 80 per cent of pupils achieving at least five A*-C grades compared with 44 per cent last year.
Head teacher David Lack said: “These results are fantastic, we have focused this year on personalising study programmes for every pupil.
“The staff and pupils deserve recognition for their outstanding work this year.”
