Police officers face misconduct charges

FOUR Greater Manchester Police officers and one member of police staff will face charges of misconduct in public office following allegations of the use of excessive force and abusive and threatening language against two women detainees.
Pcs Kenneth John Wilson (39) and Kerry Louise Williams (24) have been summonsed in relation to the alleged mistreatment of two 19–year–old women by the use of unlawful physical force.
Pc Jason Charles Hanvy (36) has been summonsed in relation to the alleged mistreatment of one of the women, while civilian detention officer Kristina Hawkins (32) has been summonsed in relation to the alleged mistreatment of the other woman.
Sgt Andrew Paul Kennedy (44) has been summonsed to face the charge in relation to an allegation that he failed to prevent the alleged mistreatment.
The summonses relate to an incident which took place at Collyhurst Police Station on October 30, 2008. The incident was investigated by Greater Manchester Police under the direction and control of the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
All five will appear before Manchester Magistrates’ Court on September 9.
