Region’s second air ambulance takes off

THE sky’s the limit for emergency care in the North-West thanks to a second life-saving helicopter.

North-West Air Ambulance’s new, bright yellow Eurocopter 135 has been fitted out with medical kit and is ready to take to the skies.

The first air ambulance, based at Blackpool Airport, flies 900 missions a year but is unable to attend about 60 missions a month because it is already dealing with another emergency.

Now the second helicopter, stationed at Manchester’s City Airport (formerly Barton airfield), has been brought in to cover the Merseyside, Cheshire and Greater Manchester areas to help increase the number of incidents attended.

The helicopter will cost an additional £1.3 million a year to run and North-West Air Ambulance is asking people to dig deep into their pockets to help save even more lives.
