A K will assess the condition of the former Oldham Town Hall which has been empty for years.

Sara Hewitt, a regeneration officer at Oldham Council, said potential developments had failed because people did not have a full picture of the building’s condition.

She added: “We have done previous studies of Oldham Town Hall. The structure has unfortunately got a lot worse and we do need an up-to-date survey.”

Money for more flowers
OLDHAM town centre is set to become even more blooming marvellous.

The council is considering using the money it receives from developers, designed to compensate for the loss of community facilities, to expand the popular floral displays created for the North West in Bloom competition.

However, councillor Dave Hibbert said he had reservations about the money being spent on flowers and plants, which should be funded from the budget for parks and open spaces.

Travelling market

THE £475,000 revamp of Tommyfield Market will also benefit other areas of the borough.

New gazebo-style stalls will be used to create a street-market in Albion Street and replace some of the current stalls on the market itself.

They would then be taken down when not in use and could be used at Shaw and Royton, as well as at other events in the borough.
