Death crash man bailed
Date published: 03 September 2009
Chris Atherton, the brother of former England cricket captain Mike Atherton, has been bailed again by police until September 8.
He was arrested in May on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a high speed crash on the M61 near Bolton.
Lay preacher Peter Russell (64), from New Moston, a passenger in a Vauxhall Corsa, was killed in the crash, and the driver was badly injured and airlifted to hospital.
Mr Atherton (38), from Failsworth, who plays cricket for the Woodhouses club where his older brother began his career, is alleged to have been driving a van which collided with the Corsa causing it to overturn.
