WASHOUT weather failed to hamper a summertime Beach Party held to raise funds for the Christie at Oldham appeal.
MORE than 200 revellers joined in the fun and fancy dress at Milnrow Working Men’s Club and enjoyed entertainment from 14 singers during the event.
Organiser Michael Cunningham, who is the club’s events and entertainment organiser, knows how hard travelling for treatment can be.
Mr Cunningham (40), from Milnrow, said: “I’ve just had a cancerous lump taken out of my neck and I also had cancer in my lymph glands 16 years ago.
“It is very hard for people travelling to Manchester for treatment, as well as their relatives and friends. Having services in Oldham will be absolutely fantastic and it is such a great cause.”
A total of £1,000 was raised prior to the event, with the total figure being £2,144.
He said: “A big thank-you goes to everyone on the team who helped out, the volunteers were brilliant.”
