NEW health centres will be built in Werneth and Shaw after plans for the multi-million pound projects were approved.
Building work is expected to start early next year, with the centres due to open in spring 2011. The centres will form part of NHS Oldham’s LIFT programme which has already led to similar developments in Moorside and Glodwick.
The flagship Oldham Integrated Care Centre and Chadderton Wellbeing Centre — which will replace the swimming pool, leisure centre and library — are also both due to open later this year.
Mr Riaz Ahmad, NHS Oldham chairman, said: “The new Royton Health and Well-being centre is under construction, these two new health developments are making leaps in progress and a new health and community facility is awaiting a planning hearing for Fitton Hill. These are part of our long-term plans to create a network of health developments which will make a real difference to the health and well-being of people in Oldham.”
