Laura Windsor is shocked at her Pride nomination
OLDHAM’S new multi-million youth centre is aiming to be one of the best in the country.
And Laura Windsor is helping to make that pledge a reality by working with young people to find out exactly what they want.
Now the 21-year-old development officer with Oldham Children and Youth Alliance has been nominated for a Pride in Oldham Award for her dedication.
The new facility will be built on the site of the Marjorie Lees Health Centre after Oldham scooped a £5 million Government grant.
Young people have travelled to London to meet the architects as well as organising consultation sessions about what it should include.
Laura has also set up local forums to give young people a say on activities in their area.
She said: “I love working with young people. I think it’s really important they have a voice.
“I also think it is important that the services and facilities being provided for young people are the best quality they can be.
“A lot of my work is supporting organisations that deliver activities for young people.”
Laura was nominated by Oldham Youth Council, which paid tribute to her as a dedicated, hardworking and fantastic person who is also the driving force behind the Oldham Children and Youth Alliance Fun Day.
She was shocked at the nomination and added modestly: “It is a really nice feeling that someone thinks I deserve to be nominated for such an award. But I do feel a little bit like I am just doing my job.
“There are a lot of people who do voluntary work and give up their time to help other people.”
