SHOCKING . . . footage of the brutal assault
This is the shocking moment an armed robber fractures the skull of a garage attendant with a metal bar.
The dramatic CCTV footage, released by police this morning, sees Awais Qadeer (30) knocked out cold and left twitching on the pavement. His attackers made off with chocolates and sweets.
Mr Qadeer, an attendant at the Failsworth Filling Station in Oldham Road, was taken to North Manchester Hospital but has now been discharged and is recovering at home.
The drama unfolded when three members of staff took a delivery last Friday at 7.20pm. Two thugs, armed with metal bars, then pounced.
Police say the raiders were targeting cash and cigarettes in the delivery van but ended up running away with sweets.
Officers hope the CCTV footage will help track down the suspects.
They got away in a dark Honda Accord, fleeing along Oldham Road in the direction of Oldham.
Det Insp Chris Bridge from Greater Manchester Police, said: “We hope that by sending out this footage, people will understand how cowardly this attack actually was.”
A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the attack and has since been bailed until October 21, pending further inquires.
