OLDHAM’S City Learning Centre has had a £24,000 makeover.
The money has been used to create a flexible teaching space with computers, informal seating in bright, funky colours and a conference/teaching area.
The £1.6 million centre opened in Hollinwood Avenue, Chadderton, in 2003 and is used by schools across the borough.
Kaskenmoor head teacher John Alder, principal designate of one of Oldham’s proposed academies, officially opened the refurbished area.
Centre manager Dave Barter said: “Schools have known for a long time that they want to make use of computers across the curriculum but in learning spaces that enable pupils to work in teams, individually or as a full class.
“The Building Schools for the Future programme (BSF) that is under development in Oldham at the moment will go a long way to helping them with that.
“The refurbishment at the CLC is to give schools a practical chance to try out such spaces while they are designing their own new schools and refurbishments.”
