Well-being centre setback

The opening of Chadderton’s Well-being centre has been delayed by a month.
The new facility on Wellington Street, which includes a 25-metre swimming pool, fitness suite, library and meeting rooms, was due to open at the end of the month.
Now, Community 1st, the developers of the project which is being led by Oldham Council and built under the Local Improvement Finance Trust initiative, has said there will be a delay.
It is working with the contractor Carillion, after building inspectors carried out a rigorous examination.
A spokesman said: “Community 1st Oldham is working hard to ensure delivery of this much-needed facility is carried out as quickly as possible.”
Chadderton Councillor and Cabinet member Dave Hibbert said: “ It’s better to wait a few weeks longer and get it right than to rush the opening and get into arguments about who has the responsibility at a later date.”
