Crompton Moor extension move
Date published: 16 September 2009
Ten acres of land is being bought by Oldham Council to extend the Crompton Moor site, identified as a potential regional outdoor attraction.
The land at Whiteside is a grazing area above Crompton Fold and Brushes Clough, near the Oldham Way footpath. Approval was given this week for officers to buy the land for the Parks and Countryside Service. The development of Crompton Moor has attracted controversy from some regular users, after the council planned a mountain bike trail and began thinning out the Whiteside plantation.
A report on the council’s website describes it as “a real opportunity to further develop Crompton Moor as a regional attraction for outdoor activities with the potential of an activity centre.”
Among the ideas the council has put forward are a free-ride trail for mountain bikes, improved access for those with limited mobility and upgraded footpaths and bridleways.
