Champion bands in action

Champion bands will be playing their best pieces at a concert at Boarshurst Band Club on Sunday.
Two local competitors at this year’s national brass band finals in Harrogate will play their performance pieces at the Greenbridge Lane club.
The Oldham (Lees) Band, North-West area second section champions, conducted by John Collins, and the Dobcross Silver Band, North-West area third section champions, conducted by Grenville Moore, will play programmes including their finals’ pieces.
For Oldham (Lees) that is “A Scots Miscellany”‚ by Alan Fernie, while Dobcross will play “Oceans”‚ by Goff Richards.
Other local bands who were at the Harrogate finals and who would like to take part should contact Dave Ashworth on 07785-257129. All percussion equipment will be provided.
Admission to the 8.15pm concert is by donations for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, in West Derby, Liverpool.
