SIXTEEN people have been arrested, 10 cars seized and drugs recovered in a major crackdown on anti-social behaviour.
Officers from the Oldham West Neighbourhood Policing Team launched Operation Advice last month following concerns from residents.
They complained about drug dealing and young people driving around in high-powered cars causing problems including speeding, blocking roads with their vehicles and intimidating other motorists.
There were also problems with noise nuisance and litter.
During the first two weeks of the operation 16 people, aged between 20 and 30, were arrested and have been bailed.
The cars may be crushed or auctioned if they have been seized for being used in crime.
Proof of ownership and insurance is needed before those cars seized for having no insurance or MOT are released back to the owner.
Sgt Trevor Harrison said: “Residents have told us that drug dealing and anti-social behaviour are the main issues that cause them concern.
“In response we have launched this operation to deter criminal activity and gather information on suspected offenders so we can bring them to justice.
“Thanks to the help of the community we have successfully reduced anti-social behaviour and removed drugs off Oldham’s streets.”
Police will continue to carry out high visibility patrols and encourage the public to come forward with information about who may be involved in crime and anti-social behaviour.
Sgt Harrison added: “This is an ongoing operation, sending a clear warning to offenders that they are being watched and reassuring residents that we are doing all we can to make their community safer.”
Oldham West is the ward where 21-year-old Junaid Khan, of Cotton Mill Crescent, Werneth was shot dead on July 9.
