Man admits ‘nasty’ attack

A CHADDERTON man narrowly avoided going to prison for a late-night attack on a stranger.
District Judge Diane Baker, sitting at Manchester Magistrates’ Court, told Christopher Chadwick: “This is a nasty and totally unprovoked assault.”
Prosecutor Tess Kenyon said police in the city centre had seen Chadwick repeatedly thumping 22-year-old David Zimmerman about the head.
Chadwick (22), of Hollinwood Avenue, admitted assaulting Mr Zimmerman and was ordered to pay him £200 compensation.
He was sentenced to three months’ prison suspended for a year and a three-month curfew, from 7pm to 7am and £85 costs.
The court heard he had two precious convictions for violence.
Mr Zimmerman suffered a cut and swollen eye and minor injuries to his forearm.
David Philpott, defending, said Chadwick accepted he was drunk but claimed the victim had been assaulting his own girlfriend.
