Explore a new branch of scouting
Date published: 18 September 2009
A new Oldham scout group where teenagers have fun, enjoy outdoor activities, support the community and gain awards has been set up.
Explorer scouts are open to any 14-18 year olds from around Oldham and the surrounding areas.
Barry Wilson, assistant district commissioner, said: “We hope to be getting out camping, walking, canoeing, climbing, and so on, and also joining in social events with other members of the same ages.
“The group is open to ex-scouts and people who have never been in scouting..
Explorers follow on from beavers, cubs and regular scouts, and are young people, usually aged between 14 and 18.
Activities are fitted around other things such as exams, and members get the chance to work with other explorer scouts in the district, not just their unit.
The next meeting is on Friday, September 25, at Holy Trinity Church Hall, Godson Street, Coldhurst at 7pm.
