Team is red hot on green issues

A TEAM of environmental crusaders who are helping the local authority to go green have received national recognition. Oldham Council’s eco-champions have been awarded a Green Apple Award for their work to promote energy-saving measurers.
They are members of staff who have volunteered to meet regularly, receive presentations on current environmental initiatives, brief work colleagues, help see where improvements can be made, encourage recycling in the workplace and ensure that lights and equipment are turned off when not needed.
The awards are handed out by the independent environment group The Green Organisation.
Councillor Mark Alcock, cabinet member for environment and infrastructure, said: “This is excellent news. It sends a clear message that Oldham Council is wholly committed to doing all it can to be the most energy efficient organisation that it can be with smallest carbon footprint possible. I would like to thank everyone who is involved in making the scheme such a success.”
