Heave ho... troops’ eight-mile truck pull

Members of the 75 Engineers Regiment set off on their charity truck pull.

TERRITORIAL Army Royal Engineers took part in a charity truck pull and heaved a 16-ton military dump truck from Oldham to Manchester.

Soldiers of the 75 Engineer Regiment took up the ropes and set off from the Queen Elizabeth Hall on Saturday on their eight-mile journey to Manchester Town Hall.

And waving them off were the Mayor and Mayoress of Oldham, Councillor Jim McArdle and Councillor Kay Knox, and Youth Mayor Mohammed Adil.

About 40 soldiers took part and several of their wives and girlfriends walked alongside collecting charity cash.

All money raised will go to the Army Benevolent Fund.

The 75 Engineer Regiment has its headquarters in Warrington but additional training bases in Failsworth, Birkenhead and the West Midlands.
