BRASS band lovers will be in for a major treat on Saturday when one of the world’s most famous bands visits Saddleworth.
The legendary Grimethorpe Colliery Band, whose story was portrayed in the film “Brassed Off”, are performing at the Civic Hall, Uppermill.
The band, formed in 1917, shot to fame under the conductorship of Elgar Howarth.
Seventeen members of the band, who were employed at the colliery when it was closed in 1992, went on to win the Brass Band Championships at London’s Albert Hall.
“Brassed Off” told the remarkable story of their fabled achievement.
Concert organiser Phil Beckwith said: “It really will be a night to remember. The band is a living legend.”
Tickets, priced at £14 each, £13 concessions, are available from Uppermill Post Office, High Street, or by contacting Mr Beckwith on 07976-165815.
The concert begins at 8pm.
